what's your client focus?
- I specialize in working with clients who have diverse sexual orientations such as: asexual, bisexual, pansexual, lesbian, gay, queer, questioning; and expansive gender identities such as: trans, gender non-conforming, gender fluid, and non-binary.
- Because of my background in sexual health, I often work as part of a treatment team with colleagues in the medical, physical therapy, gynecology, and dietetics fields. Together we address issues such as: painful intercourse, hormone replacement therapy, erectile dysfunction, low libido, fertility, and disordered eating.
- I also have experience working with individuals and couples who identify as: poly, being in an open relationship, practicing ethical non-monogamy, swingers, sex workers, part of the BDSM and/or kink communities.
- Parents, partners, and loved ones of LGBTQIA+ community members are welcome as clients as well!
what's sex therapy?
- As a sex-educator-turned-therapist, I enjoy facilitating explorations of sexuality, gender, and relationships.
- By practicing through an intersectional feminist framework, I specialize in working with folks in traditionally marginalized groups such as LGBTQIA+, people of color, femme-presenting people, and sex workers.
- Sex therapy topics may include: navigating sexually transmitted infections (STIs), menstruation management, pregnancy prevention/planning/loss, accessing gender affirmation services, changes in libido, enhancing pleasure, painful intercourse, kink, BDSM, and ethical non-monogamy.
- Sex therapy is talk therapy. There is no physical touch between client and therapist.
do you provide general therapy?
- Even though I have specialties working with LGBTQ+ populations and providing sex therapy, I am happy to serve folks seeking general therapy.
- Common topics in general therapy are: stress management techniques, assertive communication skills, boundary setting, enhancing relationships, body image, and self-compassion.
- I also have many years of experience supporting graduate students and professionals in the helping fields seeking individual consultation services and mentorship.
- Additionally, I am available for facilitating educational presentations, professional in-services, workshops, and support groups.
- I only work with clients 21 and up.
what's decolonial, intersectional feminist therapy?
- My biggest clinical influence around theory in practice is Dr. Laura S. Brown, who defines Decolonial, Intersectional Feminist Therapy in depth on her website. I like her quote, "It is a theory that not only listens to, but privileges, the voices and experiences of those who have been defined as 'other' by dominant cultures."
- Decolonial, Intersectional feminist therapy addresses the systems of power that impact our emotional health by integrating both feminist and multicultural perspectives to validate the unique challenges faced by individuals based on their intersecting identities.
- With Decolonial, Intersectional Feminist Therapy, we will reflect on the impact of social, political, and cultural factors on individual experiences, specifically addressing the dominant patriarchal and white supremacist mainstream.
- This is often a very different experience than traditional talk therapy grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Theory which emphasizes cognitive distortions and "thinking our way into feeling better."
- Therefore, in working with me, we openly discuss social identities (such as class, race, sex, gender, ability, etc.), intergenerational trauma, social media, capitalism, and the patriarchy.
